Current Obsession: ColourPop Makeup

Current Obsession: ColourPop Makeup

These days when it comes to makeup, it takes a lot to impress me. That being said, I was never the makeup type growing up. Heck, I got married at 22 without eyebrows on. For my ladies that know... just let that sink in.

However as someone who grew and matured as a performer in circus and dance, I started doing my research and building my skill level when it came to makeup. I noticed at the end of the day, the photos and videos that would emerge from my performances looked 10x better when I actually put effort into my face. So I practiced, got better, and applied these tricks to my every-day look as well. Except way less extra... sometimes.

So for the past 7 years or so, I've put in time and a lot of research when it comes to great products, and especially vegan products. I love youtube and will regularly watch reviews and tutorials as I get ready in the morning. In addition to being informative, they allow me some pseudo human company within my busy routine.

One of my favorite beauty bloggers is Kathleen Lights who actually lives in south Florida like I do. She has spoken about a line of products for years - ColourPop, that I had never really looked into because they were only sold online. How is a girl supposed to do a proper swatch from the internet?

Recently ColourPop has been introduced in stores at Ulta and Sephora, so when I saw them in my local Ulta I had to do a few swatches of their famous "Supershock" shadows.

Girl, I had to catch my breath. These shadows were unlike anything I had ever felt before. They weren't a cream, and they weren't a powder. They were almost some sort of hybrid that felt like pure (vegan) butter. Oh yea thats another point. Most products in the Colourpop line are vegan, they have a specific list online of the few items that are not. They are 100% cruelty free. They are all rediculously affordable. You are looking at $5 single shadows to $16 pallets.

So I picked up a highlight shade, Flexiterian (Kathleens favorite), some Supershock shadows in Jinxie, Elixir, and Helio Goodbye, and their ultra matte lipstick in Mama.

Here are my thoughts (and my swatches).

Their line is kind of incredible, but you have to know how to properly apply of the products. I've found that for the Flexiterian highlighter, it goes on best with a damp beauty sponge. You will could signal aliens with this highlight, it is not for a "natural" look. Glam baby. The Supershock shadows are best applied with a dense synthetic brush, use a setting spray on the bristles before going into the product for that added punch.

The pigment lasts all day, which left me feeling the Supershock vibes.

You know how if you apply a shadow in the morning usually by 6PM it has faded to just a memory of what it once was? These shadows don't do that, like at all. Their high intensity pigment lasts. All. Day. To top it off I hate matte lipsticks, and their ultra matte (which I was ultra afraid of but couldn't resist because of the color) was such a pleasant surprise. It is by far the most comfortable long wearing liquid lip I have ever worn. It's also rare to find a red shade that is vegan and amazing, so kudos to Colourpop for really doing it freaking right. I can't wait to purchase more from their line.

Check out their collection here, right now you can get $5 off your purchase too which is awesome considering their Supershock shadows are $5 and their liquid lips are $6.50.
